WELCOME TO VILLA FLORENCE

Our aim is for you to have a wonderful holiday in our Turkish home here in beautiful Kalkan.

We have tried to think of everything to make your stay a success. If you feel we have missed anything out or you have any ideas on how we could improve, then please feel free to add your comments in the guest book or email us at info@villakalkan.com

Below is an alphabetical list of practical details concerning the Villa.

Have a great time!

AIR CONDITIONING
The downstairs living area and all the bedrooms have powerful airconditioning units. They eat electricity so please use sparingly, turn off when you go out and don't leave on all night. There are remote controls to operate with timing facilities. These are fairly easy to use. Use the sun symbol for warm air and the snowflake symbol for cold air. Always wait a few minutes for the units to respond after selecting.

BLANKETS
For chillier evenings, blankets can be found in your wardrobe

BREAKAGES
Hopefully, you won't have to take any notice of this entry. However, if there are any breakages, can you please let us know so that we can replace the item.

CHECKING IN AND OUT TIMES
Turn around day is Monday. We can be fairly flexible about this but broadly speaking, check-in time is 4pm (to allow cleaners to do their work) and check out time is 10am. If your return flight is later in the day, you may be able to leave your bags outside lobby and have use of the downstairs bathroom and use the pool area but please be aware that the cleaners have to prepare for the next guests.

CLEANING
Sheets and Towels will be laundered once a week - usually on a Monday - in addition to a general villa clean.

CONTACTS
Our co-ordinator in Kalkan is Metin Oncul, who runs Sunny Car Hire in town. He speaks good English plus his girlfriend, Victoria, is British. Please contact Metin on 0532 445 90 03 (mobile) or Vicky 0535 287 61 38 if you have any enquiries, problems or queries regarding the villa. Alternatively, visit him in person - the Sunny Car Hire Office is situated to the left of the first roundabout into Kalkan.

DISHWASHER
This is situated right of the sink. For a normal wash, set to programme 3 and 55 degrees. Use the 'Economic' button for half loads. Dishwashing powder is situated under the sink. Please replenish what you use.

ELECTRICITY
Electricity can be fairly fickle at peak times and there can be power cuts - occasionally lasting a couple of hours. The increasing number of holiday homes puts a strain on the town's supply so when a power cut occurs, please try and be patient! There are candles and torches situated in the corner of the kitchen next to the sink. You'll find spare light bulbs here, too.

GARDEN
We have a gardener, Kadir, who comes round every day to water the plants, etc. He's very congenial but unless you speak Turkish, you'll have to communicate in sign language as he speaks no English.

INTERNET

There is an internet cafe just past the first roundabout on the left. At the time of writing( Nov 2005) broadband was being introduced to Kalkan so hopefully you may now have a quicker connection. If you would like to use the internet at the villa you can do so through prior arrangement with us.

IRON & IRONING BOARD
The former is in one of the cupboards in the lobby area, the latter next to the fridge.

KITCHEN APPLIANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Detailed instructions for all appliances can be found in the small cupboard under the oven.

MOSQUITOES
Can be a problem so we have provided plug -in deterrants in all the bedrooms. At dusk keep all mosquito screens closed, use coils or candles outside and spray exposed body parts with mosquito spray (we find 'SIN KOV' the best, in the white bottles). Before going to bed it's not a bad idea to close windows and spray 'RAID' into the room and leave for 10 minutes before entering. The first few days are the most important as this is when you get caught unawares! It's a bit of a ritual to get into, however some people are affected more than others so you may find this all unecessary.

OVEN & HOB
The hob uses calor gas - cylinder outside. Please inform Metin or Kadir (pool) if it runs out. Meanwhile, there is one electric ring to keep you going. The oven is electric, fan-assisted, and is fairly self-explanatory. To use the extractor fan, pull out above hob (also light here).

PLAY STATION
In the TV cupboard. Games provided. To operate simply switch on and press TV/AV button on TV or remote.

POOL
Kadir is also our pool man and will clean the pool daily, wipe down the sunbeds and make sure the patio and terrace are litter-free. If you have any maintenance problems, ask him for help in the first instance.

RUBBISH
Please leave your rubbish in the porch as it will be collected daily.

SHOWERS
If there are more than four of you, please stagger your showers as the water needs time to heat up. The boiler is situated in the top bathroom.Since we have installed solar panels the hot water is more reliable.

SMOKING
We'd be very grateful if any smokers light up outside rather than in the villa. Thank-you for your co-operation in this.

SOFA BEDS
Big maroon things in sitting room! Lift up base to convert into bed. Pillows, blankets, sheets and towels inside.

TELEPHONE
We have a mobile for your use which is on a pay as you go basis. Obviously it's operation depends on how much credit is left. You can top it up at the local TurkCell office which is situated in the little row of shops up from the bus station on the second roundabout. The lady in there will explain how it operates and often set it up for you. Basically it's a cheaper option than using your own mobiles and is also cheaper to phone the UK with.If you have your own mobile, you can get it chipped for around £8 so that you can use Turkish phone cards for the duration of your stay. You'll also have a new number. Please see Metin for details. There are several public phones situated outside the PO and one near to you in the garage.

TELESCOPE
The night skies here are amazing and we have a telescope for your use, kept in the top bedroom, to be taken out onto the roof terrace when you fancy a spot of star gazing. It has three lenses and an instruction manual in the bedside table drawer, plus there's a Patrick Moore book which goes with it. CAUTION: Never look through the telescope at the sun - you'll literally go blind.

TOILETS
All the loos are fitted with bidet taps. (There is no problem with flushing toilet tissue here).

TOWELS
Please keep white towels for inside use only. (the chlorine in the pool is very bad for them). There are a few beach towels provided (green ones) for outside use but you probably have your own.

TV, DVD & HI-FI
Hopefully, the array of remote controls won't be too much of a nightmare - all are clearly marked. We are connected to cable TV with a range of channels including BBC World, BBC Prime, CNN and MTV.
To use the DVD, press TV/AV on the remote or TV.
The CD player has a five CD changer. To operate, press the CD check button to display all five drawers, then select CD 1-5 to make your choice. Please do not close drawers by hand, use open/close button.
There are a selection of CDs and DVDs for you to use. If you get bored, you can always buy/borrow from the video store in town ( past the Moonlight Bar on the left). You can buy copy DVDs for 7YT Lira (£3) and CDs for 5YTLira.

VACUUM CLEANER
This is kept in the downstairs bathroom, and is mainly for use on the sofas and sitting area carpet which can get quite dusty in the summer.

WASHING MACHINE
Next to the oven. Please feel free to use the washing powder which is in a jar under the sink. It will be greatly appreciated if you replenish any you use. For a basic wash, use the 4 setting at 40 degrees. Powder goes in the middle compartment of the drawer. Washing basket, drying rack and pegs may be found in the downstairs bathroom.

WATER
The water supply is excellent and is allegedly safe to drink. However you may prefer bottled water. During the summer months it's a precious commodity here and should be used sparingly.
